Insert:Shortly after we left Gibraltar we hooked up with the USS Forrestal CVA-59 and shadowed a Russian convoy for a short time as it headed south along the coast of Africa. We headed back on course towards the States when other ships arrived to shadow the convoy. Our task group was mainly interested in the convoy as there was a sub tender with the group and the chain of command wanted to know what Russian subs the sub tender was going to service.

Monday, September 12 - Moored Newport, RI Hurricane Donna causing McCaffrey and Lloyd Thomas to pound each other. Captain commenced emergency breakaway. Proceeded to Narragansett Bay anchorage NOTE:Two crew members have stated they thought the Norris was the ship involved and not the McCaffrey. There is a possibility that the wrong ship was written into the log during the confusion and excitement of getting the ship untied and out into the bay. E. Amequita FA and D.L.
